Aleksandr played for Russian hockey clubs Khimik and CSKA. In the USSR championships, Aleksandr Ragulin played 427 matches and scored 63 goals. He played 102 games and scored 14 goals for the national team at the World and European Championships and the Olympic Games. He was the named the best defender at the World Championship in 1966 and participated of the legendary Canada-USSR Summit Series in 1972.
